About our Club
The Samford
Valley
is a predominantly rural residential area located just beyond the North
Western
fringes of Brisbane
City
in the Pine Rivers Shire.
In the transition from a farming to a rural
residential area, the valley has maintained a strong association with
the horse and the pursuit of recreational equestrian related activities
continues to play a strong part in the character and lifestyle of the
area.
The Samford Golden
Valley Pony Club was originally formed by 11 families in 1971 and has
been in existence for over 30 years.
The Club was established to meet the
equestrian needs of young people in the Samford
Valley
area. At present, there are over 143
individual members and 61 families involved in the Club. Membership has
been steadily increasing as the valley’s character changes
from a farming district to cater for a rural residential lifestyle.
The Club continues to provide an avenue
for young people to participate in equestrian activities in a safe and
controlled environment.
It teaches young people to be responsible and
helps build self-confidence in their own abilities. Caring for a
horse demands a great deal of tolerance, patience and understanding. Pony Club
teaches young people to think of others before they think of themselves
and provides an excellent avenue for interaction and development of
social skills under the guidance and direction of
responsible adults.
The Club essentially teaches youngsters to care for and ride their
horse in a safe and controlled manner. It provides a healthy and vibrant
outlet for youthful energy with the right mix of competitive activities
and associated recognition.
For a young person, it is an ideal grounding
for the demanding years that lay ahead.
The Club also prepares young people for
equestrian competition according to their skills and desires and has
had a number of State representatives over the past thirty years.
The ground on which the Club operates from is situated in Richards Road,
Samford. It is leased from Pine
Rivers Shire Council on a 25-year lease. Improvements
have been made through the generosity of the local business community
and fundraising by the Club and its members. The grounds incorporate a
canteen and Clubrooms, amenities, arenas, storage for equipment and day
stables. Much
of the infrastructure has been provided, and is maintained, through the
efforts of Club members.
